INTER EXTEND SERIE A LEAD

Inter Milan are closing in on a first title in over a decade after the nervy win over Hellas Verona in their latest league clash on Sunday. The Nerazzuri had not won the league since the Jose Mourinho era and it looks like that league title drought is coming to an end.

Mourinho masterminded an impressive treble at Inter Milan at the end of the 2009/10 season. The Nerazzuri had won both the league and the Coppa Italia before Argentine striker Diego Milito scored twice in the Champions League final to lead Inter to a 2-0 win over German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich thereby completing the haul of three major trophies in a season.

Inter Milan have failed to hit the heights of that season under Mourinho since then. Mourinho would leave the club to join Real Madrid after his impressive performance in the Inter Milan dugout at the end of the 2009/10 campaign. He was replaced by Spaniard Rafael Benitez.

INTER TO START GOALKEEPER AGAINST SASSUOLO

Italian Serie A leaders Inter Milan will ne without first choice goalkeeper Samir Handanovic after the 36-year-old tested positive to Covid-19. His health status was announced by Inter Milan on Thursday and he will now miss the home game with Sassuolo as a result. Samir Handanovic is not the only Inter Milan player to test positive to the dreaded Covid-19 during this period. Inter fullback DaniloD’Ambrosioalso has a positive Covid-19 test result. To this effect, the Nerazzuri won’t be withoutHandanovic andD’Ambrosiofor the tricky game with Sassuolo as Inter Milan try to keep their nine-point advantage at the top of the Italian Serie A standings.

In the absence of Samir Handanovic, second choice Inter Milan shot stopper IonutRadu is expected to start in goal for manager Antonio Conte in what would be his first appearance of the season. Radu has been ever present on the Inter Milan bench this season except for the period that he spent on the sidelines earlier in the season due to a positive Covid-19 test result. His last appearance for Inter Milan coincidentally came against Sassuolo in what was a 3-1 win for the Italian Serie A giants in 2016 and he was not even in goal when Sassuolo scored that lone goal. Radu came on as substitute during that game in the place of the injured Juan Pablo Carrizo. He came on as a second half substitute to play his role in the win for Inter Milan at the expense of Sassuolo.

INTER MILAN VALUE DEFENDER AT £50m

New Italian Serie A leaders Inter Milan could have sold defender Milan Skriniar if his suitors had met their asking price. Inter Milan were open to the idea of selling the Slovakian international centre back after a difficult first season under Antonio Conte in the last campaign but he has been able to recover from that difficult season to become an important member of the Inter Milan backline. Popular Italian transfer news portal Calciomercato stated that Inter Milan turned down a big bid of £30m for Milan Skriniar from Premier League outfit Milan Skriniar and that the defender is now valued at £50m at least after his recent renaissance in an Inter Milan shirt.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Milan Skriniar at the start of this season but the club was not able to reach an agreement with Inter Milan despite offering £30m for the services of the Slovakian international player. Inter Milan wanted more money for Skriniar but Spurs were not willing to pay and the refusal to meet the financial demands of Inter Milan for their top defensive target has come back to bite the club. JUVENTUS SET TO WELCOME BACK TWO FIRST-TEAM STARS FOR INTER TIE

The last league game Juventus played attracted mixed feelings and reactions in terms of results and outcomes. The result of the tie against Sassuolo was a favorable one as Andrea Pirlo’s men ran out comfortable 3-1 winners over their Serie A rivals. However, one major issue of concern was some other outcome of the match.

Although they celebrated the victory, Juventus still left the pitch with some injury concerns to key players. There is no particular time that any club would want to wish for injuries on their players, especially the very important ones, but this is the worst moment for clubs to bemoan their players getting injured. This is because it is that time of the season when games begin to come in thick and fast and the coach would love to have every member of the whole squad fit. Torino took the lead in the first half, finally finding the back of the net after numerous counterattacks against Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan. CITY JOIN LAUTARO MARTINEZ CHASE

Manchester City have reportedly joined the chase for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez. Having been cleared of financial wrongdoing the club is hoping to replace Leroy Sane that joined Bayern Munich recently. Coach Pep Guardiola sees Martinez as an ideal forward to join City, boosting the options in the wings and possibly be the long term replacement for Sergio Aguero.

Lautaro remains the top target for Barcelona this summer. The La Liga side agreed with Inter to break off talks regarding the switch as it was impacting the form of the player, per reports. Both sides would resume talks at the end of the season.

Viduka talks about his exit from national team

In an interview to ESPN, Mark Viduka revealed his reason for quitting the Australian football team. He blames his fellow teammates for undermining him and Lucas Neill for his sulking captaincy. The team has performed exceptionally well in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but in the Asian Cup held after one year, they performed poorly. They were the favourites of the tournament but were knocked off in the quarter finals against Japan.

He accuses the teammates on being selfish and destroying the unity of the team. He says most of his colleagues were interested in the deals offered by different companies and their rights to the television market. Viduka was fed up with the attitude of his teammates and he says it was the main reason for him to quit the national team. The team members were more interested in deals rather than playing for the team.

INTER MILAN EYES RAKITIC

If you want to rebuild, you need new tools. Sometimes, even a new engineer. Inter Milan has the latter but needs to keep fine tuning the former till they get what they want.

At times, you may not even go out of your way to get the most expensive of tools. Sometimes the ones your neighbors deem surplus to their requirement may just do the job.
