INTER ACT FAST

Inter Milan have decided to act swiftly in order to ensure their abilities to play in the Champions League next season, as they have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri after a string of poor results in the domestic and European competitions.

Inter Milan appointed former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri in place of the Argentine Gian Piero Gasperini at the start of the season. Inter were struggling down near the relegation zone, but Ranieri managed to rescue Inter. However, results have gone extremely poor in the last few weeks. Inter Milan were also recently knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16 stage by French club Marseille.

The club recently lost the crunch match with Juventus, which was the final straw for the owner Massimo Moratti. Following the defeat, Inter Milan are a massive 22 points behind the leaders AC Milan in the table, while their prospects of qualifying for the Champions League also looks a major doubt. The club are currently in the seventh position in the table. It is understood that Inter Milan are looking at the possibility of appointing former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, but are willing to wait until the summer in order to look at more possibilities

“President Massimo Moratti and everyone at Inter Milan would like to thank Claudio Ranieri and his staff for their professionalism, dedication and honesty during their time in charge of the team,” said a statement on the official website of Inter Milan. Until the appointment of a permanent manager, Inter Milan have appointed youth team coach Andrea Stramaccioni in his place. One of the first jobs for Andrea Stramaccioni will be to guide the team to Champions League qualification, which is essential considering the huge financial problems that are affecting Inter Milan in recent seasons.

INTER STILL STRUGGLING

Inter Milan were plunged into further misery when they suffered their third straight defeat in a row when they fell to an embarrassing 0 – 3 defeat at the San Siro to Bologna.

It left Inter being in a position where they had only claimed 1 point from the last 15 that were available, and the crowd voiced their dissatisfaction at the final whistle by jeering and chanting previous manager Jose Mourinho’s name, a man who had delivered the Champions League and Serie A title to the San Siro faithful.

Inter have found themselves in unusual positions so far this season, and the fact that they have only accrued 36 points from 24 games is well below the standards they normally set. The fact that they still sit in 6th position at this stage of the season is sure to send alarm bells ringing through the ears of the Inter Milan board, especially considering that they are the reigning league champions.

Manager Claudio Ranieri is feeling the heat as the pressure on his shoulders increase dramatically, and the sequence of 7 wins in a row back in January, including a victory against their rivals AC Milan, couldn’t feel longer ago. However, Ranieri has come out and refused to quit, saying that he is focussed on helping his team bounce back strongly.

However, the pressure appears to be mounting from above, with club president Massimo Moratti reported to have left the stadium at only half time, with Inter already trailing by 2 goals. Ranieri also claimed that he took positives from the game, claiming that at times a balance and tactical unity was found which was truly exceptional.
